Learn how riding Pokemon works in Cobblemon 1.7, the most anticipated feature yet. Includes details on ride types, Aprijuice stats, controller styles, and how to mount and travel on your Pokémon.
Cobblemon 1.7 is The Riding Update! Riding is one of the most requested features in Cobblemon. In classic fashion, the Cobblemon Team didn’t rush it. They spent months building a fully custom, high-quality system unlike anything seen in a Minecraft mod.
The new Riding, Flying, and Swimming mechanics are incredibly fun on their own. They’re also integrated with the Cooking Pot and Aprijuice systems, which allow players to enhance Pokémon riding stats.
To ride a Pokémon, simply hold shift and right click the Pokémon. Then select the "Ride" option in the interaction menu.
Not all Pokémon can be ridden. Rideability depends on the species and whether the server has enabled riding for them. Some Pokémon may require specific setups or higher stats to control properly.
Unlike other mods that use Minecraft’s default riding behavior, Cobblemon’s system is completely custom. Every part of it—movement, camera controls, and animations—has been built specifically for this mod. You can see how the system developed in a Cobblemon developer video from earlier this year.
Cobblemon's Riding System includes:
Cobblemon supports multiple riding controllers, depending on how the Pokémon moves. These include:
Future riding types may include special styles like UFO, Jet, and Submarine, which have already been hinted at in early prototypes.
Each Pokémon has internal riding stats that determine how well they handle riding. These stats are:
These values vary by species and are affected by a new mechanic introduced in version 1.7: Aprijuice.
Aprijuice is crafted using the Campfire Pot. Feeding Aprijuice to a Pokémon can enhance specific riding stats, depending on the flavor used. Think of it as EV training, but focused on mounted movement.
A full guide to Aprijuice and stat optimization is coming soon.
Every supported Pokémon uses a unique mount point and animation set. Flying Pokémon don’t just float—they flap, dive, and glide. Water Pokémon swim with realistic movement curves. Even large land Pokémon like Arcanine or Scolipede have dynamic posture adjustments depending on movement.
The system supports:
This level of detail helps riding feel like a true feature, not just an afterthought.
Cobblemon 1.7 brings Pokémon riding to life as a fully integrated gameplay mechanic. It’s already great for travel, roleplay, and exploration. Future updates will likely add more supported species and improve physics and interaction systems even further.
